Applications now open for the IHU Summer School Language Program

(Modern Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, and Persian),

17 June – 2 August 2019, Istanbul

The Ibn Haldun University (IHU) Summer School Language Program offers intensive instruction in Modern Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, and Persian for international students and professionals. This is a full Summer Term that over seven weeks offers twice the transferable credits as a regular 14-week semester. All classes will meet at IHU’s historically atmospheric Süleymaniye Campus, part of the famous Ottoman architect Sinan’s 16th-century Süleymaniye Complex, situated right at the heart of the city. A wholly immersive experience is designed to comprise co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as conversation tables and study hours; seminars by top scholars on Turkish history, politics, literature, and art; cultural events, movie screenings, and field trips to historical sites and archives.

Duration: Classes will start on June 17, 2019, and end on August 2, 2019.

Application deadline: For all language courses — June 10, 2019

At the IHU Summer School, our “double-intensive” track is 7×20=140 hours. This is equivalent to two full semesters of language instruction in a typical US college course. All credits are fully transferable. Personal certificates will also be issued upon successful completion of each course.

Other details:

Students are given a skill-based placement test in their chosen language, prepared and conducted by specialists and experienced instructors, after which they are placed at an appropriate level.

The fees indicated above cover tuition, course materials, weekday lunches, and all program activities (including seminars, field trips, and other cultural activities), but do not include housing, international travel, medical and travel insurance, as well as any passport or visa costs.

The IHU Summer School Language Program is coordinated and developed in collaboration with the IHU School of Languages and the Department of History.
